WHO WE ARE

Goodnews Skateshop was established in 2017 to serve and support the Victoria, BC skate community. Owned and operated by Matt Jensen and Scott Bain, Goodnews is a skateboard-only shop built by skateboarders, for skateboarders.

Matt and Scott both grew up working at their local skateshops and know firsthand how important a good shop is to a skate community. We're committed to keeping a brick-and-mortar location that reflects skateboard culture, supports our local scene, and gives Victoria skaters a place to call their own.

Everyone who works here skates and can grip a board. We're not just here to sell skateboards. We're here to support the people, creativity, and culture that make skateboarding what it is.

Our online store and social media are an extension of the physical shop, giving us a way to share what we're doing, showcase what we carry, and connect with skateboarders beyond Victoria.

GOODNEWS GOODS

We have no ambitions of being the next Dime or Supreme. But we do believe a skateshop should be a creative outlet and a place that supports the people and ideas coming out of its community.

Making cool shit with our friends is one of the best parts of the job. It gives us an excuse to collaborate with artists, designers, and other creative people in our scene and bring ideas to life that might not happen otherwise.
We don't always get it right, but we're always trying new things. If someone's got a wild idea, we're all ears.

Whenever possible, we source our goods locally and choose ethically made garments that meet our standards for quality, fit, and feel. If we wouldn't want to wear it ourselves, we're not putting our name on it.

BOARDS

A lot of blood, sweat, and tears have gone into making our shop boards. These aren't just a Goodnews logo slapped on some shitty wood.
We're pretty particular about what we skate, and we've worked closely with our team and manufacturer to dial in our shapes, sizes, and concaves to make boards we genuinely want to ride.

We put the same care into our boards as any of the brands on our wall. Quality wood, solid construction, and shapes that feel right under your feet. We'd happily stack them up against anything else in the shop.

We also collaborate with artists from our community to create new graphics each season. Seeing their artwork come to life on a skateboard is one of our favourite parts of the process, and it's always a rad day when we get to hand someone the board they helped create.

TEAM

Can you call yourself a core skateshop without a team? We don't think so.

One of the main reasons Goodnews exists is to support our crew and give back to the skateboarders who make our scene what it is.
We're always looking to bring new people into the mix. Not just because they're good on a skateboard, but because they're good people who share our love for skating and bring something positive to the crew. One of our earliest ship riders was Una Farrar!

Whether it's helping someone film a part, getting them connected with brands, or just making sure they've got a fresh board under their feet, we want to support our riders and help them get wherever they want to go with skateboarding.

We also try to get the crew out on a team trip every year, usually funded by draining whatever points we've managed to rack up on the company credit card.
